Twisting the costs around the finger
Press Release, 2009-03-06
Compared to wrap-stretch-techniques, MSK’s hoodstretch packaging can achieve
significant film cost reduction and increase of packaging stability for
the pallets at the same time.
In
the past few years there has hardly been another department with more
development and discussions with the objective of finding the best and
most cost-effective packaging method, than the beverage industry.
Oftentimes, the decisions for a certain packaging method are based on
the expectation of considerable film cost savings combined with low
machine investments.
While the mere purchase cost of a wrap-stretcher is generally lower than the
capital expenditure for a hood-stretch-device, customers confirm that
by choosing the right packaging system with MSK technology, they obtain
extensive savings during the economic life-time of an MSK machine. For
instance, one of the common disadvantages of the wrap-stretch film is
the rather low vertical tension force put on the pallet load, which
however is supposed to give the main hold during the strain of
transport. It is not uncommon for the number of originally planned
wrappings to be insufficient so that it has to be manually adjusted
during operation. This leads to greater consumption which, of course,
is a significant cost factor. Furthermore, it is impossible to attain
weather resistance, and a good display effect is hardly viable.
MSK’s hood-stretch-device Tensiontech F has been designedto
handle up to 200 pallets per hour. The machine can be equipped with
different film formats, and this way, it offers the highest possible
flexibility for different pallet sizes. The expansion of the film hood
is automatically controlled for each pallet format so that ideal load
securing can be procured. In combination with the patented gathering
method, the special coordinate stretch system even allows the
application of thinner film. Thanks to the film opening system, it is
also possible to process perforated, pierced or printed film.
Optionally, the machine fits the pallets with either firm under stretch
orcollar stretch. Meanwhile, by using a special conveyor at the covering site, the pallets stay absolutely steady.
„By covering the products with a totally tight film hood, they are
protected perfectly for transport and arrive at the customer’s with a
great display effect”, Uwe Jonkmanns, head of MSK marketing and
division, explains. “Compared to wrap-stretch-packaging, the improved
load stability decreases transport damage. In addition, it is possible
to stack some of the pallets higher, which lowers the cost fortransporation.”
