They return every year, and have been doing so for many years: A pair of oystercatchers have made the roof of the MSK company in Kleve their annual breeding ground and adopted home for their offspring. Their typical, loud call accompanies the staff of the mechanical engineering company from late spring through to summer. This year, three chicks have hatched on the MSK roofs. Many years ago, company founder Reiner Hannen made sure that a fence around the roof protected the youngsters on their discovery tours to prevent them from falling off. Although the oystercatchers at MSK do not enjoy a view of the sea, the proximity to the Spoy Canal and the nature-friendly outdoor area with a wildflower meadow and trees obviously make MSK an attractive home for the bird family.
